Kashmir was peaceful during 2005-12: VK Singh

SHIMLA: Minister of state for external affairs and former Army chief General VK Singh on Monday pointed out that the situation in Kashmir was normal from 2005 to 2012, and “what happened” that it deteriorated only after that. Incidentally, Congress-led UPA was in power at the Centre during 2004-14. Singh said that Pulwama terror attack would be avenged, but with “a cool mind” and “complete preparation”.

Pakistan has been isolated globally with over 40 countries reacting strongly against it for the attack, he added, pointing out that the US too had prepared for years, framed proper strategy and then had taken action to kill Al Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden . Singh also said that to remove Article 370 from J&K, coming together of all political parties was must.

In Shimla to attend a BJP programme, Singh told reporters on the sidelines, “India does not prick others and when someone does then, it does not spare them too.”

Pointing to the Pulwama attack, he said after such a huge incident a retaliatory strategy is being devised. On the issue of whether it would surgical strike or direct battle, he said patience should be exercised as all answers would come with time.

On the issue of eliminating terrorists, Singh said the Army had a list of those who were working against it from within the country.
